Who is Meredith Baker?
Meredith likes adventure: she’s been a cowgirl, carrot seller, artist and mental health specialist and even a National Park Ranger. Like the dog Jenny in Maurice Sendak’s book, Higgledy Piggledy Pop, she’s put her head in the mouth of the lion a time or two, and now has Experience, (please note the capital E). Once she even had a brief stint as a correctional officer, but the graveyard shift was rough and the flashlight too heavy.
Not afraid to speak her mind she’s been a tireless advocate for those in need from infants to nonagenarians to the Trumpeter swans. A cheerful traveling companion, she can tell you about plants and trees and name the birds in your backyard, all you have to do is ask.
Meredith grew up in Massachusetts, went to college in Ohio and graduate school in Seattle, and when she isn’t traveling, lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. For many years she worked in Public Health as a psychotherapist, administrator, and children’s mental health specialist. She is the author of the book Your Beautiful Child - Birth to Age Three which is distributed in cooperation with Kiwanis, Rotary and United Way. How we heal as individuals, families and communities informs much of her work. Meredith loves the joys and surprises of life, the mysteries of nature and weather, music, art and the stars that sing in the night. She thanks her amazing children and grandchildren for all their love, laughter and support.
This podcast is dedicated to them, and to many friends both on and off the road, the talkers and readers, especially John and Ginny Dugaw, and the Andy Gale Collective, a class of wonderful listening actors and players.
Meredith joined Andy’s class on Zoom early in December, 2020 when she arrived in Mississippi. Several times a week John and Ginny provided delicious meals, laundry facilities and internet service. Everyone listened as Meredith read her journal entries out loud, providing ideas and feedback, they even seemed to get her jokes. This podcast came about through those weekly readings. So here you are, I hope you enjoy listening!
